This Week At CART - Yuri Vang

Hello! My name is Yuri Vang. I am a senior at Clovis East High school, and this is my second year attending the Center for Advanced Research and Technology (CART). Last year, my home was the Biomedicine lab, where we got hands-on experience on all things medical, from dissections to even creating our own medical case studies. We read this amazing book called The Cobra Event, and most importantly we practiced real-world medical skills like CPR, suturing, and IV placement.

This year, my new home is the Business and Finance lab. This week at CART, we’ve been diving into the world of Excel 2016. Our goal is to create a budget plan, because–sadly but not literally–we were all “kicked out” by our parents after graduation. Right now we are still learning how to use Excel, but it’s exciting to discover all the cool tricks and shortcuts. Beyond that, we’ve also started planning our career paths. This lab has provided me with so much insight on adulthood, and I am grateful that the teachers are passionate about preparing us for the real world.

CART is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. You're not only interacting with students from both Fresno and Clovis districts–you're meeting people who share similar interests with you. Its wide variety of labs means there’s something for everyone. I recommend it for students who enjoy hands-on work, problem solving, and turning their ideas into reality. If you're looking for a fresh start or something new, CART is the place to be. I have accomplished and learned so much more than I thought I could have. My teachers always knew how to put a smile on my face and the friendships I made here are unbreakable. CART is my family–and it can be yours too.
