Hello! My name is Skylar, and I am a senior attending the Center for Advance Research and Technology. I am currently enrolled in the Forensics and Biotechnology lab here on campus. This lab easily turns what would typically be a boring lecture into an engaging lesson by providing the students with relevant content and activities. The teachers are very understanding and know how to make science and English learning fun! So far, we have learned how to sketch scenes, collect different types of evidence, and many more procedures used in the forensic field.
Recently, we have been starting research for our Project 1. We are working in groups of 5 and studying different law enforcement professions and how they respond to and/or do their field work connected to different crime scenes. For example, my group and I got the profession of homicide detective. I am hooked already on the research we’ve been gathering only within this week. We will later have the opportunity to gain interview skills by contacting adult professionals who aren’t associated with CART. We will ask them questions about their job in the legal field and the process they take on while on duty. At the end of our project, we will write a report, create a 3D physical model, and make a presentation about our topic.
Our lab keeps me on my toes every minute of the day, and I usually cannot wait to know what we’ll be doing next. The teachers are good at being versatile throughout the day, so you aren’t burnt out on one subject at a time. Time definitely goes fast in there and I highly recommend it for anyone thinking about trying something new!
