Hello! My name is Ritika Johal, and I am a senior attending the Forensics and Biotechnology lab at the Center for Advanced Research and Technology. Last year, I was in the Law and Policy Lab, so this year I am continuing to study things connected to the Law, but in the Forensics Lab. CART has helped me explore my passion in law and forensics. The Forensic and Biotechnology lab is very comfortable, fast-pased and exciting. Every day there is something new and exciting happening, whether learning about Forensics Science or meeting and engaging with professionals.
Recently in my Forensics lab, we completed our 3rd project which was about Criminal Profiling. In the project we learned how criminals are characterized and depicted. Forensic profiling serves as a vital asset in the investigation of crimes, offering insights into the criminal’s psychology and behavior. In this project every student was assigned a criminal who they had to profile based on the following criteria: victimology, psychopathy, and type of offender, as well as using the argument of nature vs nurture. We had to write a research paper explaining all the criteria and then in what category we placed our criminal in. I learned a great deal.
I recommend the Forensics lab to all my peers who are passionate in learning about criminology. This lab is very fast-paced however very enjoyable and exciting. Everyday you’re learning something new and useful.
