This Week At CART – Harman Sanghera

Hello! My name is Harman, and I am a senior attending the Center for Advanced Research and Technology. It is my second year; last year I was in the Biotechnology lab, and this year I am a part of the Biomedicine lab. Both labs have engaging topics that provide students with important information about the subjects. I have learned numerous skills that will help me in future academics.

I first discovered CART through my older sister, who had taken the Business lab 4 years before my attending. She loved the experience, and she met students and teachers who are still friends of hers now. I applied to CART because of her experience, and it is certainly the right decision for me too. The Biotechnology lab was an amazing class to take in my junior year. It had many hands-on labs, and we worked with many different types of cells: bacteria, DNA, viruses, etc. When I joined the Biomedicine lab my senior year, it was an exciting change and I felt prepared since I had a year of knowledge under my belt already!

I am three weeks into the Biomedicine lab and so far it is a fast-paced experience that is completely different from any other school. The activities and topics discussed in class are more focused on the specific lab, so in my case, we read a story about a patient with a fatal, flesh-eating infection called necrotizing fasciitis. Doctors were close to not detecting it, which would have left her incurable, but they figured it out right in time. It was very insightful into the mind of a doctor. We have also started a new project, with a mock election of the different body systems, voting for which system runs the body. Our class has split into groups to create campaigns for the different systems, helping us understand their functions and anatomy in a more complex way.

All CART labs have many unique qualities that make them enjoyable and spark passion in students. CART is perfect for many different types of students, and we have labs for plenty of specialties and interests! I would highly recommend it to any junior or senior who is interested in furthering their career path.
