Hi! My name is Hannah Carter, and I am a senior attending CART for a second year. Last year I was in the Environmental Science and Field Research lab, and this year I am in the Forensic Research and Biotechnology lab. This year’s lab is very different from last year, however, it’s been a great experience so far! Currently, we are in Project 1, which is learning about different careers in the field of Forensics and Criminology. The career my group and I are highlighting is that of a police officer. We’ve done research about the career and written a research paper about what our findings were. This lab is not like a usual science class. We do many more hands-on experiments and group assignments, and the teachers know how to make topics, like English, more exciting!
This week we’ve been working on completing our paper, and we started our next unit: Forensic Anthropology! In Forensic Research we have learned about the difference between human and non-human bones; in English we started a new book called The Lovely Bones. In Physical Forensic Science we’ve learned how to calculate velocity, time and position from the EDR’s in a car. For Project 1, my group and I have started planning for our model aspect and made our Google slides for the upcoming presentation.
I always look forward to coming to this lab because of the constant learning and extraordinary experiences this lab provides. I highly suggest this lab for anybody that is interested in the career field of a Forensic Scientist or for anyone who wants to do something new!
