Shalom, my name is Christian De La Rosa-Arias, and I am a student from the Law & Policy Lab here at The Center for Advanced Research and Technology. Year-around, the lab of Law & Policy has been a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. You will definitely have a clear understanding of how real court cases work. You will actually practice and experience what we call a mock trial. During the trial you will play an important role, whether you are a prosecution attorney, defense attorney, an eyewitness, or maybe even the judge. Whichever role you decide to play, I guarantee you will have a unique experience.
Recently in the Law & Policy lab, we finished reading Othello, which contained drama, manipulation, backstabbing and more. We also watched different Othello plays and movies. After we watched a scene, we were always tasked to recreate the scene with our classmates. I am a visual learner and I love this way of teaching because it’s not a plain old boring Shakespeare book anymore, it turns into a dynamic play by Shakespeare. Overall, as we acted out the scenes with costumes and even changing the script a little bit, we learned how historical writing looks and sounds in a fun way. Now, you may be asking yourself how this is related to Law & Policy? The play which we had so much fun with is our current trial. We are assigned the role of our choosing and the side we are on. I chose to be an eyewitness from the prosecution side just to have fun with the role and, so far, I am enjoying acting as my character. As of now, we have created a rough draft of what I will say at the trial with the help of my great attorneys, who are my classmates. I am excited and looking forward to the trial day.
I would highly suggest any of The Center for Advanced Research and Technology classes to anyone who is willing to expand their knowledge. The Center for Advanced Research and Technology is a totally different environment in so many ways, and it’s not just because of the professional dress days we have here, but because of the community that we have here. We have juniors and seniors from different schools in both Clovis and Fresno. Here we unite to learn and experience the subjects we are interested in. CART is worth the extra effort and you will not regret attending.
