This Week At CART – Alesia Alvarez

Hello! My name is Alesia Alvarez, and I am a senior in my second year at the Center for Advanced Research and Technology. Last year, I was in the Biomedicine lab, where we got hands-on with everything from dissections to medical case studies, learning all about how the human body works and handles disease. We even practiced real-world medical skills like first aid, CPR, suturing, and IV placement. This year, I’m taking the Biotechnology lab.

Recently in Biotech, we’ve been diving into the world of cloning using carrots. By applying tissue culture techniques, we’ve been attempting to grow genetically identical carrot plants from just a small piece of the original carrot. It’s incredible to see how biotechnology can replicate life so precisely, and it’s given me a deeper appreciation for the potential of this field to revolutionize agriculture and beyond.

I highly recommend CART to any student looking for a fresh start. From the moment I walked through the doors, my experience at CART has been nothing short of amazing. The supportive environment and innovative teaching have truly made lasting impacts on me. I’m so excited to keep growing here, where every day brings new chances to learn and grow personally and professionally. While we may not have control over where we come from or the people around us, we can choose where we go next. CART has given me the tools and guidance to carve out my own path, embracing change and hard work with compassion and determination, and it can do the same for you.
