Hello! My name is Haneen El Zuway, and I’m a senior at Clovis North High School and The Center for Advanced Research and Technology. During my junior year, I was in the Forensic Research and Biotechnology Lab. Taking this lab was an amazing opportunity for me because of the hands-on projects and assignments. It truly shocked me seeing the differences between my home school and CART, and from that moment on, I knew that CART was the right decision for me. I am currently enrolled in the Biomedicine Lab, and I’ve made many lasting friendships and connections that I wouldn’t have been able to make anywhere else.
Within these past few weeks, our lab has exposed us to many different medical techniques, skills, and environments that required us to open our minds to a whole new perspective on learning. We were given the opportunity to meet with professionals that talked to us about their field of work and what their day-to-day lives looked like. We had guest speakers from CRMC (Community Regional Medical Center), Fresno State Nursing Program, and a paramedic! Our current unit that we are in is the Cardiovascular unit, which goes into detail about the heart, its functions, its layers, and its importance to the entire body. For further analysis and inspection on how the heart works, we performed a dissection on a real sheep heart. This was because it is closely similar in terms of anatomical structure to that of a real human heart. This was a memorable moment for me because it gave us a hands-on experience that you wouldn’t be able to find in a typical classroom. It truly opened my eyes to the limitless possibilities that existed beyond the classroom, as well as the real-world applications that showed me how the concepts we learn can directly translate into future careers in healthcare.
CART is really one of those golden opportunities that you can’t pass up! The hands-on experience you’ll gain, the friendships you’ll make, and the variety of courses that CART has to offer are truly something you don’t want to miss out on. I strongly encourage students who are interested to attend CART, as it is an experience that will allow you to fully immerse yourself in a subject that interests you—a subject that you will be able to experience firsthand.
