Gisselle Diaz - Digital Marketing and Entrepreneurship

Hello! My name’s Gisselle Diaz and I’m a senior at Fresno High. I’ve had such a great experience here at CART and am very grateful to take my involvement as a student further as an ambassador. Last year, I was in the Biomedicine Lab and this year I’m in Digital Marketing and Entrepreneurship. I’ve loved my experiences in both labs. The Biomedicine lab placed me in realistic, scenario-based situations that helped prepare me for experiences similar to those faced by healthcare professionals. We also had the opportunity to hear from ER residents and physicians who visited as guest speakers. Engaging with individuals currently working in the field I hope to pursue was especially valuable, as it allowed me to gain insight into their experiences and receive meaningful advice for my future career.

At the beginning of the year in my DME lab, we were given the opportunity to select a brand to market and develop advertising campaigns for. My group chose Adidas, and we were responsible for creating social media posts, reels, and advertisements. Throughout this project, we also explored the brand’s history, identified its target audience, and learned the fundamentals of filming a commercial. As part of this experience, our class took a field trip to Old Town Clovis, where we filmed our content. Additionally, we visited a marketing agency in San Francisco that develops campaigns for major events like the Super Bowl and works with brands such as Doritos and Pepsi. This visit allowed us to share our ideas and goals with industry professionals while gaining valuable insight and advice.

This week, we completed one of the most significant projects of the year, our entrepreneurship project. For this assignment, we created our own businesses. Drawing on my interests in sewing and reading, I developed a brand called Little Looms, which specializes in handmade book sleeves. I recently had the opportunity to present and market my products at the CART Entrepreneurship Expo, where I received encouraging feedback and constructive advice that further motivated me to pursue this passion.

In addition, six students from my lab, including myself, recently participated in the STEP Fresno State Entrepreneurship Competition. Two students competed across three different business categories, and our group achieved strong results overall. Three of my classmates earned first place in their categories, while the rest of us placed second and third. CART has provided me with numerous opportunities both inside and outside the classroom and I believe that students who are willing to step outside their comfort zones and try new experiences will find the program especially rewarding.
