1. How is CART different from my high school?

At CART students are actively involved in their education. They work in teams to research real world problems and discover original solutions. Students work on projects guided by academic instructors and business partners. They will have access to the latest technology and will be expected to expand their learning environment to include the community. They will focus their studies around a career area (Professional Sciences, Advanced Communications, Engineering and Product Development, or Global Issues).

2. Where is CART?

CART is located just south of the Sierra Vista Mall at 2555 Clovis Avenue in Clovis . Click here to view a map.

3. Who may attend?

Any student who will be an 11 th or 12 th grader in a Fresno or Clovis Unified School next fall and who meets the entrance criteria is eligible to attend the CART program.

4. What are the entrance requirements?

It is recommended that students be on track for graduation and that they have successfully completed two years of English, one year of Science, and Algebra I. Each student application will be reviewed individually regarding enrollment. There are some additional recommended prerequisites for some labs.

5. What if a student does not meet the entrance requirements but wants to come to CART?

Students who do not meet the requirements must meet with the CART representative to discuss how those requirements will be met.

6. What is the enrollment procedure?

Applications are available from high school counselors and at the CART site. They must be completed and turned in to the high school counselor or the CART office. The application will be reviewed and the student will be notified by mail by of acceptance.

This year a lottery will be held to give students from all schools equal access to all labs.

All applications received by February 10 will participate in the lottery for placement in the CART labs. After February 10 applications will be process in the order that they are received.

Students will go through the regular enrollment process at their home school. During their home school enrollment they must sign up for CART classes as well as the classes that they will take during the home school part of their day

7. Do CART classes count for admission to CSU and UC systems?

CART classes are college prep classes and meet CSU and UC requirements.

8. Does CART have AP classes?

CART has an AP Computer Science course. Students can take the AP exams without taking AP classes. It is anticipated that some CART students will choose to take the AP exams. There are some AP courses available online and it is anticipated that some CART students will participate in these online AP classes.

9. When are classes held?

CART classes are held every day, Monday through Friday. The morning session runs from 7:30 to 10:30 am and the afternoon session runs from 12:30 until 3:30 pm . Students must attend class everyday.

10. What about extra-curricular activities?

CART will not offer any extra-curricular activities for students. Students are encouraged to participate in those activities offered at their home school.

11. What about discipline?

There few discipline issues at CART. Students are here because they choose to be and they are studying in a lab that they have expressed an interest in. Any disciplinary issues that happen at CART will be handled at CART and the home school will be notified. The rules and regulations of the home school will be observed at CART.

12. Is there a dress code?

CART students will be required to adhere to the same dress code as their home district. In addition, students are encouraged to dress appropriately for the business world.

13. Is transportation provided?

Both districts will provide bus transportation for students to and from CART. Bus schedules can be found here.

14. What about lunch? Will there be food at CART?

We recognize that the bus schedules may or may not allow a student to eat lunch at their home school. CART does not have a cafeteria, but there is a snack wagon and an area for students to eat. Vending machines are also available.
